How to make sure my dog's homemade diet is complete and balanced?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | spayed | 8 years and 2 months old

I am thinking of transitioning my dog into a homemade diet. They are currently on 50/50 of kibble and NrG dehydrated raw. What can I do to make sure their food is complete and balanced

I would consult a veterinary nutritionist, but I don't know that there are any where you are located. Another good option is the website balanceit.com. They will help you formulate balanced recipes and I believe there is a free option as well.

Hi there. If you want to make homemade food for Charlie, I would recommend using the website www.balanceit.com or doing a consult with a veterinary nutritionist who can help you put together a complete and balanced diet for him. You can find more information on how to set up a nutrition consult here, if needed: http://www.acvn.org/nutrition-consults/
