Unfortunately there is not much research on CBD oil in dogs at this point. People like to recommend it for many, many different problems ranging from arthritis to seizures to anxiety, but there is no evidence at this point that it helps. Unfortuantely we could never recommend and say it is ok to give your pet human medication if it is not prescribed specifically for your pet. There is too much room for human error when trying to microdose human medication to pets. Also there may be contaminants or other ingredients there that are not suitable for dogs, so it is best to use caution and stick with the pet formulated one that has been tested in pets. Also we are not legally able to prescribe CBD oils to pets in most states, so experimenting with this lies entirely on the owner and your research. The law has made it clear to us that we just don't know enough about CBD oil to competently prescribe it and educate owners on its use. With that said, there are some pet owners that say it has helped their pets with arthritis and pain, while others say it hasn't helped at all. It is still considered a supplement and is anectdotal, which means that there isn't enough research to say that it is going to be helpful for most pets and what conditions it can treat for. You have to try it and see if it helps your pet. We also have no authorization to recommend it to any pets until it goes through the legal system. You can certainly try any over the counter medication, including CBD oil, as a homeopathic option and see if it helps with your pets aggression. However, with any medication or supplement, you will have to still do formal training on your pet to help resolve any behavioral issues you are seeing. CBD oil is still very much in the experimental stages in veterinary patients, so we do not have any reliable information yet about effective dosage ranges, safety, or possible drug interactions. We hope that more studies on this will be forthcoming in the next few years - but for now, if you choose to use it, be aware that you are doing so at your own risk as we do not know whether it is safe to use with other meds. If you want to try something else for his anxiety issues that we know is safe, I would suggest Zylkene or Composure - these are natural calming supplements that can be purchased over the counter or ordered online without a prescription. You could also talk to your veterinarian about prescription anti-anxiety medication such as alprazolam or trazodone, if Peetie's anxiety is severe.
