My dog has hives and is stretching. Why isn't Benadryl helping?

Allergies are definitely a possible cause these hives. Allergies are most commonly due to environmental causes (i.e. pollen) and can start suddenly. Benadryl is usually helpful in these cases, so it may be mange. Mange is caused by a microscopic mite that burrows under the skin. This tends to be very itchy. They usually get this from other animals. It's best to have a vet check the skin. They can check for mange and give better treatment for allergies. You should call your vet and give him/her an update. If the hives started after giving the antibiotics then your vet may want to switch to a different antibiotic in case it is an allergic reaction to the antibiotics. Your vet may also want to prescribe a corticosteroid to help treat.

I would recommend taking Oreo to urgent care if the hives have not resolved 30 minutes after giving Benadryl. Oreo may need an injection of a corticosteroid to resolve the allergic reaction, and an allergic reaction can get worse quickly if not treated appropriately.
