My 14-year-old Akita has hip pain and a mouth growth. Is he okay?

Nicco does sound painful. He could have arthritis, hip problems, back problems, or may have torn or strained a ligament in his knee. I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning to have this evaluated and treated. Best of luck.

The growths you are seeing on Pico can be unrelated to the lameness. It is not uncommon for older dogs to get arthritis similar to humans. They make several classes of medication to help with pain in older animals. It is worth consulting your vet to see which Pico is a candidate for to extend his quality of life.

Possible causes of the mass are: a benign over growth of gum tissue, an epulis, or cancerous growths. Some epulids are: Fibromatous, ossifying, and acanthomatous. Acanthomatous epuli, in particular, are highly invasive to the bone and are usually located on the front part of the lower jaw. It is sadly impossible to tell from just looking at the mass to say what it could be. I recommend you make an appointment with your Vet. Lucky will have to go under anesthesia, have dental X-rays taken of the area and the mass biopsied or removed, if able. I hope this helps! I wish Lucky the best!

Unfortunately it sounds like Bailey has joint pain or arthritis possibly of the hips or spine. X-rays may help to provide more information on the exact site of the problem and it sounds like he requires additional pain relief from prescription anti-inflammatories. Acupuncture and chiropractic care can be helpful also and weight loss is definitely recommended to remove additional strains, my preferred option here is hills metabolic mobility diet which is supplemented with joint support, natural anti-inflammatories and promotes healthy weight loss whilst preserving muscle strength and fitness

Poor guy. It sounds very plausible that he could either have severe gastritis (inflammation of his stomach) from the recent switch in food, or he has something else entirely going on internally that is the source of his pain. Many organs are in the belly area, so the pain could be from anything. A good physical exam is needed first to isolate where the pain is coming from, and then he needs to get on medications to help mange his hip dysplasia a bit better, besides just the glucosamine. Glucosamine is a good 1st line of treatment for joint problems because it is so readily available, but there are much stronger medications your vet can get Wretch on to help manage his condition better. Heavy breathing after a walk is highly suggestive of joint pain, so its best to visit your vet to get him on something that is going to be more effective for his condition. For now, its best to keep Wretch's activity level light so that he doesn't over exert himself, leading to more injuries and pain. That does look concerning. Unfortunately there is no way to tell from the appearance alone as to whether or not it cancerous. You are correct in that it may be a benign growth, it may cancer, or it may some sort of inflammatory mass from an infection of the gums either due to a dental problem or due to an embedded bit of small stick or something along those lines. Gingival hyperplasia (overactive growth of the gum tissue) is possible, however it usually appears less "mass-like." If she is still eating, active and happy, make an appointment with your vet at your convenience in the coming weeks to have it checked out. If she is not eating or otherwise seems ill, or if you are noticing that her breath is really bad, get her in as soon as you can. Your vet may recommend that a biopsy be considered. A biopsy is the only way to determine what exactly it is, how dangerous it is, and what needs to be done about it. I hope thats helpful for you! It sounds like there are a couple of things wrong with Charlie. These masses can be lipomas, but they can also be malignant. It could be he is in pain causing him to trip over things and lose his balance. This chattering teeth can be a sign of oral pain. I'd have him seen by a vet today for these issues to get them diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.
