I see what you mean now, thank you for clarifying. I apologize for not answering your question the first time. When you said rations, I would thinking of something else. Dehydrated meats are fine. Dehydrated protein sources are a more concentrated source of digestible protein, and many pet food companies dehydrate the meat. I personally like Royal Canin as a dog food. Its a very high quality dog food. Other brands I would recommend include Hill's Science diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I hope this helps! :-)

Kibble with high protein content would be correct food for a younger dog (under 2 years of age) who is still growing. Also working dogs that are out herding a lot, or getting a very large amount of exercise, should get a higher protein containing feed. Racing dogs such as greyhounds and whippets are fed a higher protein feed during training so they can make a lot of muscle. Non-working/non-racing dogs need to be fed a lower protein containing food as do dogs with kidney disease.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Chloe. The pet food industry and its terminology can be very confusing. Meat generally refers to skeletal muscle tissue from the animal source (chicken, beef, etc). Meal meal is formed from tissue leftover after slaughter. It is cooked down and dried to be added as a protein source. Bone meal refers to ground bone and adds calcium and phosphorus to the diet. Milk bones are nice treats for dogs as then come in very small sizes. This helps with portion control as many peta are overweight. I have attached an article that will explain this further. I like to stick with the more common protein sources such as chicken unless the pet starts to have problems from a suspected food allergy to chicken. I don't think one is more digestible than the other but that would also depend on the quality of the food and how well Annabelle tolerates the particular food. I like to leave the lamb and other proteins out of the regular diet in case you need to do a food trial down the road. Then lamb, duck, rabbit, kangaroo, etc all become possibilities. I will say one more thing. The grain free pet foods are just a marketing ploy by the pet food manufacturers. Very few pets ever have problems with grain and these diets are usually more expensive. Allergies to food are due to the protein source and not the grains. A grain problem in pets is very very rare. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Kibbles usually contain around 10-15% moisture only, which makes them much more concentrated in proteins, but if you would reduce the moisture content in the raw diet i'm not sure you would get less proteins. do not forget that a dog eats much less kibbles (in quantity) than raw food and will drink more water when eating kibbles, to compensate for the lack of moisture.

Companies that conduct research and have minimal to no issues with recalls are generally going to produce a better diet. You can also watch your dog's body. When pets produce a lot of stool or are gassy, have dull hair coats or experience frequent GI upset, these can be signs of a poor quality food. The brand I recommend is Royal Canin.
