Why is my dog's healed hot spot still bruised and sensitive?

Thank you for including the picture of Marley's skin. This black color change can occur with chronic inflammation, which is my suspicion in this case. I doubt that it's a reaction to the medication, as this would more likely cause some redness and irritation. The color change itself is hyperpigmentation (an increase in pigmentation), but the causes of this are varied and can be temporary or permanent. Regardless, it looks as though this hot spot has healed nicely. It's only a matter of time for the hair to finish regrowing.

There will be areas around the wound where the skin will die off, then new skin cells will move in. The grey is likely dying skin whilst the red is the new healthy skin. If the wound looks particularly red, or is smelly or pussy it would be necessary to visit the vet as antibiotics will be needed.

Those spots look like normal healing after a mild skin infection or irritation. I would continue to just keep an eye on it. If the spots seem to be multiplying, turn much darker, or turn red, then you may want to have Benito rechecked by your vet. They should continue to get lighter and go away over the next week or two.

That area could be an area of healing bacterial infection. However it could also be related to ringworm or mites. It's likely that the area is in the healing process so I suspect it will be completely resolved in a few days. Hello. The presence of skin that has darkened like this is due to the production of melanin in the skin. This is similar to our darkening that occurs from sun exposure, but in Tucker's case, it is probably from chronic irritation. While the Vaseline might be soothing, it is also not helping much, especially if this is due to some kind of allergy. On top of that, many dogs can develop an ongoing & chronic skin infection, too. The only way to clear this up is to see your veterinarian who can start Tucker on the proper treatment to clear this up as much as possible. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I can't say for certain since I don't have a "before" picture to compare to. But most hot spots are bright red, raw, and moist looking. If that was the case then yes, I definitely think there is improvement. I would absolutely keep the E-collar on at all times so he cannot lick/bite it. I would continue the spray - probably another 5-7 days or so. Of course, if you are worried about anything, please see your vet to be sure we're on the right track. Best of luck to you and Kobe!
