My dog has a hard black spot on his chest oozing pus. What is it?

What is this on this dogs chest? It has pus coming out of it when squeezed. Started as a hard black spot

Poor guy. This appears to be a possible mass (i.e. histiocytoma which is usually benign) or a severe inflammatory response to a foreign body (i.e. Grass awn, etc) underneath the skin. I would recommend having your vet take a look at this and shave the hair around it to get a closer look at it up close. They will also flush the area well and start a short course of antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medicaitons to see if it resolves. If it doesn't then samples of the tissue can be taken to identify what this is for sure, so that we know how we need to treat this area successfully. Best of luck with Dayo and his skin issue. My dog has bumps on her chest that leak fluid. What could it be?

Are you sure this is not a nipple? Nipples can be up all the way on the chest. If this is not a nipple then these may be pimples (little abscesses), cysts or tumors. You should have them examined by your veterinarian as tumors should be removed ASAP, especially if they are of a black color (likely melanoma). Abscesses can usually be treated with antibiotics and/or be lanced, and cysts can be evacuated. Your vet may want to do a fine needle aspirate (he takes some material from the bump with a needle and then looks at it under the microscope) to determine whether the mass is concerning.

It’s hard for me to tell from your picture if this is raised. If so, it could be a skin mass like a histiocytoma or cyst. If it is flat it could be a small hot spot or area of skin infection. I’d recommend having your vet examine it in person for a definitive diagnosis.

My senior dog has a black, blood-filled lump on her chest. What is it?

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Looking at the picture you attached, it could be a couple of things. It could be a benign mass, like a skin tag, that has become irritated. There is unfortunately also a type of skin cancer called hemangiosarcoma that can look like this though. I would recommend taking her into your vet. They will likely ask you how long it has been there, about any changes in size/shape, and recommend a small skin biopsy. The region shown in the picture is consistent with a hotspot. Hot spots occur when an animal scratches or choose at an until damage is done to the skin. They can often progressbvery quickly and become quite severe if not treated. If the area is continuing to enlarge or if Garret seems uncomfortable I would recommend that you have him seen by your veterinarian. Your veterinarian may clip and clean the area and prescribe medications to help it heal. In the meantime I would recommend that you try to prevent Garret from scratching at the area. You can put a t-shirt on him to protect that area.

My dog has a bump on his chest. Is it a pimple or something serious?

It appears to be a cyst like lesion kind of like a pimple. Try squeezing it to get it to pop. Then rub it with a cotton ball soaked in hydrogen peroxide. If it starts to get bigger (doubles in size) then take Parker to see a vet to examine it.

My dog has a cluster of blackhead-like bumps on her chest. What is it?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This looks like a focal infection. This can also be a change in pigmentation without any other effects. You can try to use a medicated shampoo containing chlorhexidine twice weekly for 2 weeks. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good night!
