My dog has hair loss after rabies shot. How to make fur grow back?

Unfortunately there isn't anything that can help the fur to regrow. You can try some omega 3 fatty acids or fish oil. If the hairloss hasn't been seen by a vet recently I would have your vet take a look at it to ensure it isn't a thyroid problem or something else. If it is truly just due to the injury, you can put some baby sunscreen on her to prevent any burns if she has light colored skin. Most dark colored skin will not burn. I hope this helps!

Hi, there is nothing you can do to aid or speed up growth apart from making sure that you feed him an appropriate good quality diet. You can supplement his food with a omega 3-6 supplement to aid skin integrity and a healthy coat. You could give Chicago a fish oil supplement, but I would speak to your vet regarding which one would be better considering the diet he is on and his age and weight. Hope this helps !

Oh no. Poor guy. It sounds like the hair follicles are in permanent resting phase after the shave. The only thing you can really try here would be Melatonin. It can take up to 3 months however, to see any growth after starting this supplement. Talk to your vet about proper dosing for Lily since we legally cannot tell you that information here, but it is worth a shot. I would also bathe LIly regularly and brush the area with a soft brush often to hopefully stimulate the hair follicles to regrow. I hope that Lily gets her beautiful coat back. Poor Cooper! You could certainly try an omega-3 fatty acid supplement such as Welactin to see if this helps. But, it isn't normal for it to take so long for hair to grow back, so I would be concerned that he may have a thyroid problem or some other underlying medical condition causing problems with his hair growth. When you can, it would be a good idea to have him examined by a vet - he/she can do some basic blood work to check his thyroid function as well as liver, kidneys, etc. If there is a problem, it's usually very treatable with medication once a diagnosis is made, and would be very helpful in getting his hair to grow back in.

There is something called post-clipping alopecia that is most likely the problem. Happens quite frequently after shaving for a fentanyl patch. The reason the hair fails to regrow is unknown. Total hair regrowth may take 6 to 24 months, although most animals regrow hair within 12 months. Some things that may help the hair to grow back faster would be: * vigorous brushing of the area * massage * hydrotherapy with warm water * covering the bald area with a sweater to increase skin temperature All of those things increase blood flow to the skin and may stimulate hair regrowth in some cases. So, give it some more time and if after about 10-12 months the hair has not grown back then speak to your vet about testing for underlying diseases like a low thyroid, cushing's disease, etc. Hope this helps. There is no injection to make hair grow. Based on the way your dog's skin looks to me, I would be concerned about severe allergies or a hormone issue like Cushings or Hypothyroidism causing the hair loss. Fungal or yeast overgrowth is usually an issue secondary to something else like allergies or low thyroid gland production. Make sure your vet has tested BamBam for low thyroid at a minimum. If the hair loss is caused by hypothyroidism or Cushings disease the hair is not going to grow back on its own without treatment. If these endocrine issues are not going on in BamBam, and the skin infection has been adequately treated, then the hair should grow back with time. Some hair follicles take weeks/months to start producing hair again, so it takes time. Hope that helps!
