Why is my new dog hacking up white sticky stuff after playing?

Since the coughing has not resolved on it's own, he may require a medication. In the meantime, encourage him to continue to eat and drink. It is possible he has a sensitive trachea or a condition called tracheal collapse, which is when the trachea briefly narrows in diameter when the pet gets excited or plays. If he is otherwise doing well, then you can monitor him for now for any progressive symptoms. If he starts coughing throughout the day, then a vet visit is needed for further evaluation and x-rays to confirm this suspected diagnosis and to then start treatment. Otherwise he should be fine if he is only doing this after playing with the other dog. Just keep him play time to a moderate level (20-30 mins) to avoid excessive coughing. It could be a respiratory infection, it could be a collapsing trachea, it could be kennel cough, or it could be something more serious like heart disease. Hello. It sounds like Farah has some esophageal irritation, or possibly even a case of tracheitis ( inflammation of the trachea ). This can be caused by some irritant she inhaled, like smoke, or she may have a case of kennel cough, also called tracheobronchitis. It may be a good idea to have her evaluated by your veterinarian in case she requires antibiotics or even an anti-inflammatory to quiet her cough. She may have a cold or kennel cough. They get this from other dogs and it causes a lot of coughing and often some nasal discharge. When dogs cough they also sometimes vomit a small amount as a result so I'm not overly concerned about the vomiting if Rainey is otherwise normal. Keep her quiet to reduce the coughing, and away from other dogs as this can be infectious. She should be better in a few days to a weeek or so. It also could be due to a throat irritation from eating the bark and other items. Same thing though, with time this should resolve on its own. If she should get worse and stops eating or starts more vomiting then it's time for a veterinary exam and treatment.
