Dog growling after tick in ear. Could it be an ear infection?

Poor pup! That does look quite suspicious for an ear infection, since normal ears should be very clean with no obvious wax or debris in the ear canal. I would recommend taking him to the vet to have this checked out. Your veterinarian can examine a sample of the debris under the microscope to determine what kind of infection is present (yeast, bacteria, etc.), and will prescribe appropriate medication to treat it depending on what is found.

Hi and thank you for using PetCoach! I am so sorry to hear that Snoopy's ear is red. It is very possible Snoopy may have an ear infection. Ear infections are most commonly due to underlying allergies such as environmental or food allergies. It is possible Snoopy has mites in that ear but less likely since only one ear is very affected. I would recommend taking Snoopy in to see your veterinarian. They will likely take swabs from both ears and look at a cytology of them (under the microscope) to look for infections. If this is the case, your veterinarian will recommend ear cleaner/ medication. Good luck! I recommend taking her to a vet so they can test the contents of the ear to find out what kind of infection it is. Once they know, they can prescribe a medication to treat the infection and pain. As this condition is likely uncomfortable and can progress, I recommend having him seen by a vet as soon as possible. Your vet can take a sample of any discharge in the ear to determine if the itching is caused by a bacterial or fungal infection and recommend an appropriate treatment.
