Why is my dog growling and barking while sitting? Is he sick?

I would recommend to take Caesar in for an exam to make sure there's no evidence of pain. If no medical reasons are found, then I would suspect this is a behavioral problem. Caesar is now nearing adulthood so he may be trying to figure out where he fits in the pack. I would recommend to work with a professional dog trainer. Aggressive behavior always has the potential to become very bad and you don't want anyone getting hurt. I would start training immediately before the behavior becomes ingrained. Hello, Duke may be hearing or sensing something that could be causing him to be alarmed. If nothing, then make sure Duke did not get into any medications at home that could alter his mentation. If this does not change and he continue to show this behavior then have Duke evaluated by a veterinarian soon. I would have Duke evaluated tonight if his behavioral changes worsen or if you note any other signs including weakness, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, or worsening aggression. Sorry to hear that Bruno's lost his bark. A change in barking sound or a loss of bark can be associated with a few different conditions. While a collapsing trachea or an upper respiratory infection are certain possibilities, they are not the most common cause for this symptom. There is a condition known as laryngeal paralysis that is known to cause this symptom quite frequently. Regardless of what the cause is, it is unlikely to resolve on its own without some treatment. You should take Bruno into the vet for a physical exam and some diagnostic imaging. They will be able to tell you whether or not one of the above mentioned conditions is causing Bruno's current issues. Hope this helps!

With Bruno the reason he is acting this way is dominance and trying to mark his territory. He can do fine with another dog in the house and typically breed does not matter. However I would highly recommend getting Bruno neutered. Neutering will help with aggression and dominance issues. It is really important to get these dogs in a training program. I would recommend starting with basic commands like sit, come and stay. After he has mastered those you can move on to harder ones. IT is important in public that Bruno feels safe with you and also like he does not have to protect you. This will fix him releasing his anal glands. Training will be the key. hope that helps

It's hard to say, but if there is concern about something being stuck in the throat, I would have Bruno examined by a vet ASAP. Sometimes infections that cause kennel cough can cause these symptoms, but it is safer to rule out a possible foreign body or blockage first.

SInce Borris is growling at everything, it appears that he is a very insecure dog and needs to growl to warn others to stay away from him. This is problematic as one day this may lead to snapping at a person or other animal. It is important to have him examined by your veterinarian to make sure he is not in pain, and has no health problems such as progressive loss of vision, or any other condition that makes him feel vulnerable so that he has to warn all the time. Once health reasons are ruled out I suggest you consult with a dog trainer or behaviourist and have him assessed. The specialist and you can then work with Borris to lose his fear and be more relaxed and happy. Your vet surely can refer you to a veterinary behaviour specialist. It is money well-spent.
