Dog has a growing cyst. Can I treat it myself or find financial help?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Female | spayed | 18 lbs

I have a 9 year old Bichon dog who has a very large cyst on her back. 2 vets have checked her and said it will burst on its own and is not malignant. She has had it for approx. now for 5 years and it is slowly increasing in size. It is about the size of a silver dollar. I have been quoted $600 to $800 to have it removed but I am a senior n a fixed income so unable to afford it. Please advise how I can treat and reduce it myself. Thank you Joanie and Tess (dog)

There is nothing you can do at home to reduce it or make it go away. You can talk to your vet about financial options such as accepting Care Credit to help. There may be some local rescues or organizations that have funds to assist in the cost also
