My dog has two growing bumps under her eye. Should I worry?

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 5 years and 8 months old | 65 lbs

My dog is about 6 years old she has had What the vet said to be a skin tag right under her eye it’s never bothered her or seemed to be in the way until here the past couple weeks we’ve noticed she now has two right under her eye... one seems to be getting bigger. Slowly but surely. What could this be? I’m starting to feel our vet was wrong and it may need to be removed before it’s in her line of sight...

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Cali. That one growth resembles a skin tag but the other one is on the eyelid margin. The location of these growths make them very worthy to evaluate. There is only so much eyelid that can be removed before the eyelid margin is deformed from the mass removal. The smaller the mass the better outcome for surgery. I would advise having this evaluated by your vet or another vet if you want a second opinion. This could be a benign growth or cancer. Once the mass is removed it can be sent to a pathologist for review and diagnosis. Good luck

Personally I don't think drops in the eye would even do anything for the skin tag below his eye since it isn't IN the eye, but on the lid or skin below it. It is likely a skin tag that is just in an unfortunate location. If you think it is bothering him then I would just have it removed. He'd have to go under anesthesia but it shouldn't take long or be a big deal to get it off. Otherwise I think it is fine to leave it be and watch it. If it starts to grow quickly over a short period of time then get it off.

It may be a benign skin tag or mass. Monitor it for rapid change or growth. If necessary have your veterinarian examine it and remove it if it grows fast, spreads or causes discomfort. It can then be submitted for pathology and identification.

It could even be a growth though thankfully most of the eyelid growths in dogs are benign. I would continue to monitor it for now. If it goes away then great. However, if it does not go away and actually continues to grow, I recommend you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I' sorry to hear Ivy has a growth under her eye. I do recommend all growths be evaluated by your regular veterinarian to determine if they are something malignant (cancerous) or not. Additionally, with this growth so close to the eye, it may need to be removed in order to prevent issues if it were to grow. I would recommend having it evaluated by her regular veterinarian, and a treatment plan made if needed. Good luck!

My dog has a bump near her eye that's growing. Does she need a vet?

Without a picture or examining Laila it's difficult to say what is going on for sure. Dogs can get small tumors on their eyelids called meibomian gland tumors and normally these are benign. However, I'm a little concerned that it has gotten larger overnight. It could also be an area of infection or a more serious tumor type. If you can post a picture of Laila it may be helpful to give you further advice. If not, it would be best to err on the side of caution and have Laila examined by your veterinarian. Hi thanks for your question this morning. It is hard to say exactly what the mass could be without examining Gus and taking a sample of the mass first. This should be done at your local veterinarian's office to determine if it is something of concern or not and if it needs to be removed. Sometimes bumps under the eye can also be a sign of a dental infection coming from one of the maxillary pre-molars. It is good you are getting Gus examined by his veterinary tomorrow to make sure. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. This will likely require sedation because of the location of the growth. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Good luck and have a good day!

My dog has a growing, fluid-filled eyelid bump. What should I do?

Hello, thank you for your question about Chloe. Based on the photos that you've attached and the symptoms that you are describing it sounds like Chloe may have a mass/tumor on her eyelid. These are generally benign and do not lead to systemic problems. Other possible causes include a cyst or local infection. Since this lesion is growing in size I would recommend having Chloe seen by your veterinarian. If it continues to grow it may lead to problems on the surface of her eye. Your veterinarian can examine Chloe and determine the need for diagnostics such as ocular examination and potential removal of this lesion. Hope this helps!
