Why are my dog's grey gums spreading and sore after teeth cleaning?

Hello! This looks like gingival hyperplasia and it can be due to inflammation under the gums. When you use a scraper on the tooth you are not getting under the gumline so there is still bacteria under there which is causing inflammation. I would not be overly worried about it at this stage. It is not that harmful but go easy with the scraping and only use that once every month or two. It appears to be some moderate gingivitis and tartar. The tooth underneath the red area may be affected, and may not. It would take an xray of that area to know for sure. I recommend getting her examined by your veterinarian and planning a dental cleaning and oral x-rays.

Akilla appears to have severe dental disease from these photos. She needs to see a veterinarian for assessment and probable dental cleaning and and extractions under anesthesia. The loose teeth are usually painful and she is at risk for dental abscess or systemic infection from her mouth. Truly your dog needs to have dental cleaning under anesthesia to evaluate these teeth and clean up all the tartar and around the gumline. Unfortunately most of the time loose teeth need to be removed and it also sounds like your dog could have some gingival recession that needs to be evaluated. I would make an appointment with your vet for an oral exam and most likely they will want you to schedule a dental procedure. Brushing teeth at home is great and will slow buildup of tartar, but it isn't going to fix the problems that Tiger has right now.

It is not possible to know the full extent of this just based on pictures though this does look like significant gingivitis and dental disease. Sometimes this is due to pure inflammation secondary to dental disease and sometimes there may be an infection. I would recommend getting your vet to check this closely, it appears in the pictures that the lower canine is making contact with the gum and chronic irritation can cause inflammation, scarring and occasionally tumour changes

Thank you for providing a picture of Shad's teeth! It looks like he has some tartar build up on that canine tooth, and I see his gums along his teeth are red. This is a sign of gingivitis.
