My puppy's grey broken baby tooth: Is it infected before her spay?

I see what you mean from the pictures, it does look like where the tooth was is red. I would have Mystie seen by a vet for this problem tomorrow. Her mouth needs to be checked to see if the root of the tooth is still in her gums, and if she does have an infection, the vet can prescribe antibiotics for her. I'd soften her dry food tonight with warm water, and rinse out her mouth after she's done eating to make sure any food isn't caught where the tooth used to be in. Best of luck!

I would not be too concerned about the tooth at this time. It is difficult to tell from the picture, but the tooth in question looks as if it is a baby tooth that has broken off. If this is the case, the tooth will fall out sometime between 12-16 weeks of age. If this is an adult tooth, then I would recommend you continue to monitor it for now. If the tooth is still looking abnormal at the time of your dog’s spay (around 6 months of age) then your vet can remove it while she is already under anesthesia. Hello. That tooth probably should come out, even though it is a puppy tooth, but you can wait until Friday as long as Luna does not seem uncomfortable. . Your veterinarian might just leave it be, but there is a small chance of infection that can get into the root & then the bone causing problems with the adult tooth. It can wait for Monday, it's probably either an infection or a bad reaction to the suture material. if she is not on antibiotics already then she will probably need a short course of antibiotics for it to get better.

Hello Haley! Unfortunately I can't see your last question, but I do see Sassy isn't spayed, and I'm wondering if she was having symptoms that made me suspect she was suffering from a pyometra. A loose infected tooth would cause her pain, leading to her not eating and may cause some lethargy, but it would not be similar at all to the symptoms of a pyometra. A pyo is a life threatening infection that is extremely serious, and can cause a dog to be extremely ill. The best thing to do is have Sassy seen by a vet immediately.

Regular tooth brushing of the area and rope chews with applied tothpaste can help to keep the teeth cleaned but it is difficult to access the area between the baby and adult teeth. Referral to a specialist centre for anesthesia and surgery may be a consideration depending on the severity and long term prognosis of the liver condition

I think he will be fine to wait for the procedure next week. I would not be worried about an infection. If the vet notices one they will put him on some antibiotics at the time of the tooth extraction. No worries!
