What causes a dog's front leg paralysis and constant body tics?

He could be suffering neurological effects from the tick or he could have injured himself, and he has to have veterinary treatment now especially since his symptoms are worse. Oh goodness. My initial thoughts are to comb his whole body, including looking in his ears for a tick- as occasionally their saliva can cause tick paralysis. I would also consider getting an MRI if one is available. Encephalitis due to parasites, immune disorders, or cancers are on my list, as is a disorder called Coonhound paralysis. At this point I would highly recommend asking your vet for a referral to a neurologist, who can run more advanced testing (I.e. MRI, CT scan, etc) to diagnose her problem and then explore her treatment options.

This indicates that she has some degree of damage to the spinal nerves or peripheral nerves that control that leg. This can happen when they are hit hard by something, or (more likely) when they have a lower-spine disease. Old dogs tend to be more susceptible to various spinal cord problems that develop with age. These can be treatable though, so it's best to take Trixie for a vet evaluation sometime soon. The vet will be able to narrow-down the cause of this problem and provide pain relief (these conditions are usually very painful). For now, it's best to restrict her activity, as this can worsen her condition. Do not allow her to run, jump, or go on long walks until advised otherwise by your veterinarian. I am not sure of your location, but also make sure to check Dexter thoroughly for the presence of ticks. Tick paralysis can present in a similar fashion and is typically non-painful. Removal of the tick and supportive care results in a full recovery majority of the time. Another potential is coondog paralysis if Dexter has had any contact with a raccoon recently. As everyone else has stated, there is always the potential for an infectious or inflammatory CNS disease, trauma, or a congenital abnormality.
