My French Bulldog has one testicle. When should both be visible?

Hi. I would like to know the normal age for a French bulldog to have both testicle visible as mine only has 1.

The testicles usually descend by 2 months of age. Some breeds may take longer, but typically by 6 months of age both testicles should have descended. An undescended testicle poses an increased risk of testicular cancer. Surgery is typically required. Cryptorchidism is considered a genetic fault so your dog should not be used as a stud dog. The procedure can be done when your dog is neutered. Discuss the details of the surgery with your vet.

Most male dogs' testicles will be fully descended by 5-6 months of age. Your dog may unfortunately be cryptorchid, meaning that one testicle is still retained within the body. Due to this, it is important to have him neutered as these retained testicle can often become cancerous.

In my experience, if they haven't dropped by 6 months of age, they aren't going to, so I agree with you. Although the procedure is more invasive when the testicles are in the abdomen, they might possibly only be in the subcutaneous space (the case in one of my dogs) and neutering in those situations is quite easy. I'd get a second opinion, because you're right - the longer they are under the influence of testosterone, the more those tendencies can develop. And the more prone they become to the development of testicular cancers.

I am afraid it is unlikely they will descend at this stage. Cryptorchidism in Dogs, or retained testicles is a condition which needs to be surgically treated. The testes normally descend into the scrotum while an animal is very young. For dogs the descent to the final scrotal position is expected to be complete by the time the puppy is two months old. It may occur later in some breeds, but rarely after the age of six months. I would suggest scheduleing an appointment with a different veterinarian to have Beerus examined and to make a treatment plan.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Cryptorchism is the term used to describe if one or both testicles are not descended in the scrotum. It is a genetic condition. The breeder shouldn't continue to breed this line. It will be fine to wait to neuter Dexter until he is 1 to 1 1/2 years old. I wouldn't wait much longer. Oso is very cute! By six months of age, both testicles should be descended into the scrotum. If they are not by six months of age, then it is unlikely that the other testicle will fall into place. This testicle has the potential to turn into a specific type of tumor and so you will want to make sure to have him neutered. Hopefully it will come down on its own! Hello. It is too early to make any judgments as to if & when Diesel's testicles may drop. You certainly can wait until he is 6 months to a year of age, but if nothing is seen or felt by this time, he probably never will drop them. This can be a trait that is passed on to future puppies, so you definitely will not want to breed him. He should also be neutered in this case because the retained testicles are maintained at a much higher temperature in the body, & this can result in the testicular tissue turning cancerous. My 7-month-old male puppy has only one testicle. Is this normal?

It means Konan is a cryptorchid. One of his testicles hasn't descended. This can happen, but dogs with this condition should never be bred because it's genetic. I would have him neutered, and the vet can remove both testicles. I hope this helps!
