Should I give my dog more food or fewer treats for a balanced diet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 4 years and 9 months old | 17 lbs

What's more balanced, giving my dog 2/3 cup of food plus two 12 calorie biscuits or giving her 3/4 cup food and three 2 calorie treats? Now that she's not getting so many supplements she could actually have a full 3/4 of a cup of I gave her the smaller treats. The first scenario when be 10% of her diet coming from treats and the second would be 5% coming from treats. Thanks!

Less treats are always healthier for anyone, dogs and humans included. It would be better for Chloe to get more calories from a balanced diet then adding in extra treats, so you can give her 3/4 cup of food and three two calories treats :-)
