How much dog food should I feed my 4-month-old puppy twice daily?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 4 months old

Hi can a 4m old pup be fed only two times in a day ? One time Half cup dog food and one time Boiled chicken and vegetables with rice ? Or should I switch to two times dog food. He usually eats thrice but I'm trying to get his potty routine kinda fixed. So is it fine if I feed him at 8AM and 7PM everyday. He is only 12kg / 26.4lbs .. pls tell according to the cup the amount to feed .. I can't figure it out

I think it is perfectly fine to feed him twice a day. I would feed him about 1.5 to 2 cups twice a day depending on how active he is. If you want to give him some of the human food supplements, that is fine but I would not make it his main diet as that doesn't have all the vitamins and minerals that he needs. i hope this helps.

Great question! Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. Buddy will need a puppy formulated food. You should feed him three times a day, once in the morning, noon, and evening. Best of luck.
