How much dog food should I feed my 4-month-old puppy twice daily?

Congratulations on your new addition! At this age, you should be feeding him 3-4 times per day. The amount depends on the brand of food that you choose to feed. He should be eating puppy food, and if you check the bag, there will be a feeding chart, which will tell you the amount to feed for his weight. I usually use the rule of thumb of 1 cup per 20 pounds (~9kg). But with puppies, if they are really active and thin then they may need more. Some puppies are nibblers and don't want to eat that much and that is ok as long as he is eating, growing properly, and not too thin. I hope this helps!

In another month, you can decrease his feeding to three times a day, and eventually twice per day. The Royal Canin Maxi Starter food is great for growing puppies! By 2 months of age, Bourbon should be able to start chewing through dry kibble, so you can start to wean him off of the water soaked kibble over the next few weeks. Cerelac is not a necessary component of any dog's diet, so I would recommend stopping that and strictly feeding the balanced puppy food. Based upon the feeding guide for your puppy food, Bourbon should eat around 250 - 260 gm per day, meaning that he should eat around 60 - 65 gm per meal. Pedigree puppy food is fine to feed your puppy, but you don't have to mix it with water as he is old enough to eat solid food. That being said, it will do no harm to mix it with the water :-) He should eat three times a day, once in the morning, noon, and evening. Once he is six months old, he can be fed twice a day (morning and evening). I would feed him according to the instructions on the label, and divide it into three equal portions.

Yes that is a lot of food. I suggest you feed a good brand complete puppy food for medium to large breeds (depending on how big your dog will be) and feed your puppy according to the label on the food. It should give you a daily ration and you should then feed this over three to four feeds divided. This then would be the proper amount to feed.

As a young Shih Tzu puppy, I'm assuming that Luna is under 3 pounds. Based upon that estimated body weight and her age, the chart recommends feeding 1/4-3/4 cups per day, divided into smaller meals. Small breed puppies really need to eat 3-4 times per day, if possible, because they can easily develop hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) if they do not eat frequently, which can lead to extreme weakness and seizures in severe cases. Try to feed Luna in the morning, when you get home from work, and again at bedtime, giving her about 1/8 cup per meal. If possible, try to look for a dog walker, pet sitter, or neighbor to feed her and let her outside midday. I hope that all goes well!
