My dog had fleas. Is it safe for him to visit other dogs?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Fleas can carry tapeworms, so it may be necessary to deworm Huey. A vet can also take a good look at Huey's skin to make sure there is no irritation or allergic reaction to the fleas. I hope all is well!

I would say after 24 hours, Leo should be fine to see other dogs. Depending on what product you used, efficacy rates can vary. The best products are oral products such as Comfortis, Simparica or Trifexis. Some over the counter products don't work well at all. So there is variability in how well it will work. After 24hours any product you used will be in his system and any topical products dried. Please post again with any further questions.

You are doing the right thing by using the Capstar and bathing him but that does not guarantee that no more fleas will be present. I think it would be best to keep them separate for at least a few days to a week until you get a feel of how well controlled Louie’s flea infestation is. Remember that you can use Capstar daily to effect. Remember to vacuum all the surfaces that have contact with him. Good luck and have a great day!

I would not use any more fipribol containing products for at least a month at this stage. I would instead trying treating your hoke for fleas as fleas actually spend most of their life cycle off of animals and in your home. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There is a fine line between being too over protective and not socializing the puppy enough. I think walks on side walks and NON dog parks are fine. I think playing with healthy (not recently sick or currently sick) and 100% vaccinated animals is also fine. I do not recommend boarding, doggie daycare or dog parks until 2 weeks after the puppy's final vaccinations. So yes I think it absolutely fine for your friend to visit. Humans can carry viruses. If it has been 2 months since her previous dog died of parvo it is likely safe. She should leave her shoes outside and have clean clothes on. Have her wash her hands before playing with your puppy. If she recently, with in 2 months, had a parvo infected dog that is still alive in her house I would not have her visit. Good luck!

If the dog was treated prior to coming to you house then the fleas are likely dying. It somewhat depends on what treatment the dog was given as to how much of a problem these fleas may be. I would make sure to keep your dog current on flea medication. Vacuum areas where your dad's dog has been and empty the canister outside as this may pick up an flea eggs or larvae that fell off of that dog. More than likely your house will be fine without drastic treatments. Be sure all pets have flea medication applied or given.
