My dog needs flea treatment. Nexgard or Bravecto instead of Comfortis?

You can use a Preventic collar, a Seresto collar, or a topical medication such as Frontline or K9 Advantix along with Comfortis for tick coverage. Or, if you prefer to stick with oral medications, you can switch from Comfortis to Nexgard or Bravecto - both of these cover both fleas and ticks, and are also very effective.

The easiest way to do so is to go to your veterinarian and either buy the chews from him or get a prescription from your vet and get them over the internet. I am assuming you are looking to buy either Bravecto, Simparica or Nexgard. These are prescription only.

Hi there. Yes, Bravecto is an excellent product - it's extremely safe, and very effective. It's the main flea medication that we use at my clinics, and what I am currently using for my own three dogs. In terms of side effects, we occasionally have clients report some mild lethargy or stomach upset for a day or two after giving it, but most dogs have no side effects at all. Nexgard or Credelio would also be reasonable choices.

Nexgard and Bravecto have oral chews that dogs can eat as treats. Nexgard is monthly whereas Bravecto is every 3 months. Both of these prevent against fleas and ticks. Heartgard is an oral medication that protects against heartworm and other intestinal parasites. There is a Seresto collar that can be worm by dogs to prevent flea and tick infections for up to 8 months. I recommend reaching out to your local vet to see which products they have available. Bravecto last for three months, but I prefer using a monthly topical treatment personally. That's because it can be reapplied after two weeks at the earliest if needed, while you would need to wait longer to give your pet Bravecto again.

Natural products just don't stand up to pests like fleas and it will leave you very frustrated as a pet owner trying to get rid of them. J would stick with a good quality flea preventative such as Bravecto, Nexgard, Simparica or Comfortis. Frontline has largely grown out of favor because it has been ineffective in a lot of pets.
