My dog's flea bites are red and he keeps licking. Home remedies?

It sounds like Rook is definitely very uncomfortable. If you really are unable to have him ctopical hecked out (which I would strongly recommend based on how serious the skin condition sounds), the at home remedies I would recommend include flea / tick treatment, medicated bathing, and medications such as benadryl. You will also want to apply an e-collar to Rook to prevent any further licking and biting that is causing a worsening condition while the situation is getting under control. If none of these are working in an appreciable amount, I would tell you to begin to try and save a little bit to have him checked out. Their are prescription medications that might work really well in getting the itchiness under control and make Rook a happier dog. Hope this helps.

Poor Maxx. Allergies are no fun, you can try a few at home remedies, but if he doesn't get relief he honestly may need a veterinary visit. Antihistamines can be hit or miss in dogs but you can certainly try Benadryl twice daily if it gives him some relief. You can also soak his feet in lukewarm Epsom salt solution once or twice daily. Malaseb shampoo may help if there is any yeast or bacterial infection component to his itching. When using the medicated shampoos I typically recommend lathering them up, especially affected areas and allowed to soak for up to 20 to 30 minutes before rinsing. If you have a crate or someplace Maxx can hang out while sudsy that helps. And for dogs that will not leave their feet alone I strongly recommend getting an E collar. Sometimes you have to break the cycle of the scratching and licking before seeing any improvement. If there are open sores or very raw areas I would recommend trying to do a veterinary visit as that indicates secondary infection and will likely need systemic treatment as well. Oh dear, poor Peanut! Some dogs are allergic to fleas and can actually develop bacterial skin infections as a result of ongoing scratching and licking. The first two photos look most suspicious for signs of a skin infection, but the third photo looks more suspicious for a raised benign or malignant mass. I'm glad that you're planning on taking Peanut to his vet when it is financially feasible for you. In the meantime, make sure that all pets in your house have been treated with a high quality flea preventative, such as Nexgard, Bravecto, or K9 Advantix II (or Advantage, Revolution, or Bravecto for cats if you also have cats in the house). Hello, sorry to hear about Marcelino. There are a couple of things you can try, but may or may not have a good outcome. Most of the time, dogs will bite and itch from allergies. You would need to have these treated to gain the best control on your dog's itching. However, if his biting and itching is mild, then you could try to bathe him with a skin sensitive shampoo 2-3 times weekly. You can also wipe his paws and belly with skin sensitive wipes after coming in from being outdoors to decrease the exposure form environmental allergens. Again, most of these have different response and Marcelino may not stop his biting completely. Hope this helps and best of luck.

I don't think lesions like this would be caused by fly bites. I would guess that these lesions are either from trauma or from a bacterial skin infection (often secondary to allergies) although it is difficult to know without being able to examine them in person. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend any home remedies and I think that ultimately she will need to see the vet for a diagnosis and treatment. You could ask around and see if there is any subsidized veterinary care in your area, or you could also look into Care Credit which could help with payment options.

Temporarily putting an e-collar (cone) on him will also be helpful to prevent him from chewing on his skin, causing further skin irritation. Hi. Poor Twitch. Sounds like some pretty bad allergies. Also, check and make.sure there aren't any fleas or ticks. The only options at home would be to try antihistamines.
