My dog had fleas, now has red spots and bites paws. Could it be flea allergy?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 12 lbs

My dog had fleas a few weeks ago . We have treated it and he has red blotchy spots all over him and is bitting at his paws . Could this be an allergic reaction to the fleas . I have given in a few baths now with a flea oatmeal based shampoo . But he is still bitting at his paws . The look a lot pinker then normal .

It sounds like Biscuit could have a flea allergy, or possibly environmental allergies. The picture of his paws does look inflamed. He may need to see a vet for systemic medications such as antibiotics or an anti-itch medication if it's not getting better on its own. Make sure he is on a good flea preventive so that he is not getting bitten over and over again.
