One flea on dog after treatment. Should I worry about infestation?

If you haven't seen any other signs of fleas, then yes I would say you are in the clear. If your dog does pick up another flea in the year, then yes it will die when the flea bites your dog due to the monthly topical treatment :-)

One flea is possible but not likely. The majority of a flea population lives off of the pet and in the surrounding environment. To be safe and to prevent an infestation, use a topical or oral flea preventative for at least the next three consecutive months, preferably year round. Your veterinarian can dispense CapStar, which will kill any adult fleas on Jake within 30 minutes of administration, if necessary. Vacuum everywhere and dispose of the bag or empty the canister outdoors immediately after. Wash all bedding in hot water. Use an area treatment, such as Knockout ES, to prevent infestation.

Hello, Luna may have had a single exposure as the fleas will die from the flea medication. Since she is protected, you should continue to monitor her coat for any additional fleas. Its likely that you have fleas in your yard and home, so in addition, you should spray your yard and home with flea insecticide to reduce the flea load in your environment. Dogs are not supposed to get wet for at least 24 hours after application of a topical flea medication, and more than likely it was washed off during the bath. You can reapply the flea treatment, and I would give them Capstar given you have seen fleas. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes, and it's safe to be given at the same time as the spot on treatment. Just as a note, I would not recommend using Frontline. In my experience (and from the experience of many colleagues), there is a resistance to Frontline, and you may not get the best results from it. I recommend using Advantage or Revolution instead. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash their bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.

I would say it's safe with one flea killed and no more signs seen. Theoretically, they could live in house plants, but again since you haven't seen anymore, I wouldn't be worried about it. You are on top of it if you have an exterminator spray, and to give you peace of mind, you can have them come again now :-)

Capstar will only kill those fleas that are on the dog and sucking blood once. Getting rid of fleas is relatively easy but entails work for a few months: Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment:  1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly )Bravecto/Nexgard/Seresto will last longer) 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas. I think you are in the clear if you haven't found any further fleas and he's on a monthly preventative. If he had more and you used a flea comb, you likely would have found additional evidence of fleas. Because you didn't, I would not worry :-)
