Are fish oil and joint supplements truly effective for my dog?

Basically what the article is saying that there isn't a lot of research done in supplements in animals, and really need more research done to determine they are beneficial or not. I certainly always recommend glucosamine to my clients in terms of joint problems, and I do feel it's beneficial. Fish oil can be beneficial well, but it's important not to give too much because that can lead to an interference in wound healing. I think the supplements you are giving now are fine :-)

Hello again! If you are already giving a joint supplement and fish oil, do not give Chloe this additional supplement. Too much fish oil isn't good for her. I'd give the joint tablet and fish oil only. Cosequin is important for her to have for her joint health, and Nordic naturals fish oil is a good brand.

There isn't any scientific proof that these supplements work, it's more anecdotal evidence. If you want to streamline them, I probably would suggest removing the ones for her heart. Supplements won't changes her genes fi there is a genetic predisposition to them. That is a sensible supplement protocol. A joint pill is always good, fish oil can help with skin, and Glandex is good for anal sac issues. No, they don't need probiotics and enzymes on a regular basis. Probiotics are good to give in cases of diarrhea, but on a daily basis have no value. Enzymes have no value either, everything Chloe needs will be gotten from her dog food.

This appears to be a good supplement. Glucosamine and fish oils are beneficial in many dogs that may be prone to developing arthritis or other bony disorders as they get older. However, scientific data on these types of supplements is lacking. Similar to humans, they might help and don't hurt anything. If you want to give them to Jesse, that is fine, but I do not routinely recommend these types of supplements in young-ish dogs.

I'd say no. There is very limited research about the effectiveness of hemp oil in dogs, and we don't know the side effects of it or interactions with any other medication. If you want a joint supplement for Mugsy, I recommend Dasuquin or Cosequin.
