My dog met street dogs, now has fever and isn't eating. What's wrong?

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Male | 1 year and 6 months old | 60 lbs

Day 1: came in contact with a street dog n pups, no fights/biting. Just smelled them. Fed chicken and rice (usual meal), did not eat except for a few 2-3 bites. Left the rest. Apeeared to be fine and healthy. Dayb2: fever running, weakness, did not eat anything, just drank water once through out the day. And rested. Day 3: fever slightly down, drank water, ate few dog biscuits, did not eat anything, slightly active than day 2. Note: weather changes amd increase in mosquito in the area. Pls help

I am sorry to hear O2 has been not feeling well lately. There can be variety of medical causes for the symptoms O2 has been experiencing- fever, decreased thirst and appetite, and decreased energy. Infectious causes such as viral infections or parasitic infections could be possibilities. If O2 did come into contact with street dogs, it is possible he could have been exposed to something infectious, potentially.

Mosquitos can also transmit infections- in dogs the #1 infection transmitted by mosquitos is heart worms. I recommend O2 see a veterinarian as soon as possible for an exam and full diagnostic work up to determine what is causing O2's symptoms so he can receive the best and most appropriate treatments. Your veterinarian my run blood work, test his stool for parasites and run other diagnostic tests as needed.

My dog has a fever, isn't eating, and losing weight. What should I do?

Poor guy. Not every pet with a fever has an infection, so if the antibiotic isn’t working it’s either because there is no infection, the infection is internal, or the antibiotic is not the right kind of antibiotic for the infection. Your pet needs additional testing to sort this out and make sure we are on the right track with treatment. I would start with baseline bloodwork and a urinalysis. Best to take your pet back in to your vet or to another vet for a second opinion here so that we can get a proper diagnosis and tailored treatment based on your pets specific problem. My dog has 104.9 fever, isn't eating, and is lethargic. What's wrong?

A fever this high is usually indicative of a bacterial or viral disease going on. Your veterinarian will need to run some tests to try and determine the cause of the fever. Once the cause is identified the proper antibiotics, antifungals, or antipruritic drugs can be prescribed. The tablet given to your dog is basically a fever reducer but will not treat the cause of the fever. I would recommend taking your dog in for a recheck as soon as you’re able to. My dog is sick, won't eat, vomiting, and pooped worms. What to do?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Your dog appears to be young (under a year) from what I can tell based on the pictures and information you provided. The most likely diseases are as follows: 1. Parvo, a virus that primarily attacks the immune system and intestines of dogs and is very lethal if left without supportive care. 2. Intestinal parasites which can cause intestinal blockage and even anemia (depletion of red blood cells). 3. Other viruses with varying severities. This is not an exhaustive list, just the most common things for a puppy. They will all lead to dehydration and other secondary issues which can all be severe enough to cause death. Whatever the underlying disease, he looks very ill and needs attention from a veterinarian immediately. I would recommend taking him to your nearest emergency veterinary hospital as soon as possible. My dog feels warm, has a dry nose, and isn't eating. Is he sick?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Biggie! I don't personally hold much stock in nose dryness/wetness or the temperature of the nose. To know if Biggie has a fever you need to take his temperature rectally with a digital thermometer. A fever in a dog is anything over 102.5 F. There are many causes for a poor appetite: Viral infection, foreign body, fever from infection or inflammation, intestinal parasites (the eggs are microscopic and can not be seen in the stool unless adult worms are passed), pain and many many other causes. Try taking Biggie's temperature. If he has a fever I recommend making an appointment today with your Vet. I hope this helps and I wish Biggie a speedy recovery!

My dog has a fever, cough, and no appetite. What should I do?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Tisoy! If he has a cough, a fever, isn’t eating then he should see a Vet immediately. He is so young that I worry he may deteriorate quickly. I suspect pneumonia based on your post. If he has pneumonia he needs fluids and antibiotics. You can syringe water and 2-3 times per day put him in a steamy bathroom for 10 mins and do chest courage. But he really needs veterinary care. I hope this helps and I wish Tisoy the best!
