My dog's face is covered in itchy bumps. Is it dog acne or allergies?

First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment (on prescription as Jacky is small and overdosage can occur), then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. I am not sure where this cluster of pimples is, but if it is on the chin this could be chin acne. This could also be a skin allergic dermatitis to some type of allergen (chemical or environmental). The almost clear contents inside mixed with blood is probably a folliculitis (inflamed hair follicles) which typically requires antibiotics and medicated cleansers to flush out the follicles. If you canno get to your vet right away for treatment, you can try gently cleansing the area with an antiseptic like Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water or Chlorhexidine 3% diluted as instructed on the bottle (preferred)- available at most Walmart's, to see if this calms things down a bit. Any further treatment depends on the location of the rash and getting your vet involved may be best for Abbie, because he/she can thoroughly examine the area and get her on stronger medications to resolve the skin.

Hi, from your pictures it appears that Mackenzie Ray is having an allergic reaction to something. You may see hives, small bumps, all over her skin. If she is vomiting or having trouble breathing, she needs to see a vet immediately. You can try giving her some Benadryl to see if that resolves. I cannot give you a dose but you can look one up online. Also, a shampoo with steroid can give her some relief. This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Junior regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or Apoquel in order to stop the allergy.

These look like acne type lesions to me and can occur in dogs secondary to allergies or contact hypersensitivity from things like plastic food bowls. A skin growth or insect bite might be another possibility. I'd recommend having your vet take a look in person to determine what these are - they might recommend taking a sample using a small needle to examine under the microscope.

It sounds like Rosebud is definitely having a skin irritation. Many things can cause skin irritations. Food allergies, environmental allergy, thyroid conditions and fleas. I would recommend to call the vet and ask them about next steps if the shampoo is not working. If the problem continues, I would also recommend to ask the doctor based on you location, what is the most likely cause of the continued skin problem and which the is the first condition to pursue.
