My dog's erect penis has red spots. Is it normal or a health concern?

Poor guy. I am so sorry Charlie is ill and has this suspicious erythematous lesion on his belly near his penis. This looks like a possible mild bleeding under the skin or potentially an adverse reaction to a tick or black fly bite. A black fly bite wouln't cause systemic illness however (not eating, lethargy). There is possibly an internal issues going on here and more information is needed to determine what exactly. I would recommend taking him in to the vet first thing in the morning. He should be stable enough to wait until morning as long as she is not having any of the following: 1) Pale gums 2) Severe lethargy and non-responsiveness 3) Excessive vomiting that is continuous 4) More red spots developing on the skin in various places If he does not show any of the above symptoms, then it is likely ok to wait until morning to get Charlie seen and fully evaluated. The main concern is if there is an underlying bleeding disorder or immune system disoder (i.e. IMHA, IMTP). I hope that things work out well for your pet Charlie and that he feels better soon! Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! It's hard to clearly make out the picture of his testicles. But it isn't abnormal for dogs to have freckles or pigmentation on their testicles. The scrotum is just like regular skin, if the animal is white with spots the scrotum can have spots. As for the spots on his belly, they could be evidence of a mild skin infection. A pustule that popped and left a crusty ring. If he only has those 2-3 spots and isn't excessively licking or scratching, you can try a medicated shampoo. Bathe him 2-3 times per week and leave the lather on the affected areas for 10 mins before rinsing. Unfortunately it is hard to tell when we cannot see exactly where on the penis this purple spot is. If it is a round swollen area, then that would be the bulbus which swells during copulation and locks the penis in the vagina of the female. If people separate the two dogs rather than wait until they part themselves, this bulbus can get injured and the female can also get injured. It is not a good idea to let this male mate with the three females in heat as he will introduce bacteria into their vagina and possibly uterus and so could cause a uterine infection (pyometra). If you could take some good photos of your dog's penis, we could better assess the situation and give you a more specific answer.

The lesions on Oscar look very red. Thats always a cause for concern. I can't tell what part of his body is affected but I am worried this might be bruising which is always serious. It could all be infection. Its hard to say without being able to see it myself. I would recommend to play it safe and get him into a vet ASAP to check it out. Place an e-collar (cone) on Bruno to prevent licking. Keep the area clean and dry. If necessary, wash with an antibacterial soap then dry thoroughly. A sprinkle of plain corn starch can keep the area dry. See your vet if the lesions do not heal. Anything you apply may get licked off or rubbed off when he lays down. Discontinue the supplement. It is possible he may have a sensitivity to one of the ingredients. Discuss allergy testing and food sensitivities with your veterinarian.

It could be he injured his penis, or the blood is a sign of infection. I don't see much blood in the picture, so I'd keep an eye on it for now. If the bleeding continues or increases, have him seen by a vet. Best of luck.
