My dog eats everything! How do I stop him from chewing on things?

Kennel him if you are not able to watch him. This will protect your things and him from eating something that may cause an obstruction. Too many toys can lead to boredom. Give him 1-3 at a time and hide the rest. You can rotate these every day so he thinks he is getting something new. If this continues you can talk to your vet about medication.

Oh no! If he will tolerate a crate, I would strongly consider this to help prevent him from swallowing something he shouldn’t and to prevent more damage to your house. Why don't you crate Chico while you are gone? The crate will provide him a small space where he can feel safe in it when you are gone, and it will keep him from chewing on things. You will have to slowly train him to get used to a crate. Start putting him in it when you are home and sitting nearby so he doesn't think you are abandoning him, and slowly increase the time he is in it. He can have toys in the crate, and puzzle toys with treats in it that he has to figure out how to get the treats out. You can put a tablespoon of peanut butter in a Kong toy and freeze it in the freezer overnight, then give it to him in the crate. That will keep him occupied for a while. I hope this helps!

I think at the moment he is probably bored and his overexcitable behaviour doesn't help much either. You should try to help him keep calm by giving him a place where he can settle, entertain himself , for example offering him a kong stuffed with some dog food , then put it in the freezer for a couple of hours. Ziggy is just being a puppy and exploring his area. Puppies don't know what is and is not appropriate to chew on or play with. First, I would recommend putting away everything that is not appropriate to chew on. If there are things that cannot be picked up, like electrical cords or upholstered objects, then you may have to prevent Ziggy's access to those areas by blocking off the object or using baby gates. Second, you can try a product like Bitter Apple Spray that can be sprayed on things to make them taste bad (fair warning, though, some puppies don't care about the taste!). Third, make sure that Ziggy has plenty of appropriate puppy toys available. You may have to try several different types to find what he prefers to chew on. Always monitor him - if he is able to tear it up then it is not safe for him! You may also hide some of the toys and rotate them every week so that he thinks old toys are new.
