My new anxious dog is eating pine straw and has weird poop. Why?

Whitish stool is an indication of a digestion problem and would not generally be related to anxiety; the head bobbing may be related to fever or nausea also. I would be concerned about the lethargy and poor appetite - try offering her warm moist food and also some pedialyte to prevent dehydration. A recheck by your vet should be considered if not improving within 18-24hours

Unless the anxiety is so bad that you need anti-anxiety medications, it is not necessary to see the vet for this behavior. This generally means a dog is nauseous for some reason - although some dogs just enjoy eating grass for unclear reasons (flavor, the dew on it, etc). Hi Deja! It is common that puppies eat things outside such as branches and mulch, but it is strongly recommended to keep them from doing that. Branches can cause trauma to the GI tract, and some types of mulch can be toxic to dogs if they contain cocoa beans. Puppies may eat this stuff due to intestinal worms, which would also cause her to poop in her crate. I would make sure Daisy is up to date on her deworming treatments, giving her one if she is not. I recommend Panacur, which is a three day course of treatment. She will need another course of treatment two weeks after the first to kill all the worms, and then she should be dewormed every three months. Pick up any branches outside, and keep her away from the mulch to keep her from eating it.

She may have an upset stomach, maybe she ate something she shouldn't have, swallowed something that is causing an obstruction, parasites, or an infection of some kind are possibilities. I recommend getting he seen by your vet, especially if she isn't feeling well. Your vet will do an exam, labwork and possibly x-rays. Based on these findings, they will be able to give you a better idea of what is going on and give you treatment options.
