Is it safe to give my dog a regular bakery cupcake for his birthday?

Happy Birrthday Queen! Make sure that she only has a small serving of cake or treats. We don't want her sick on her birthday. No bones, fat or grease should be used and minimal to no sugar. I found this recipe online that should be acceptable just make sure she doesn't eat the whole thing! Foods that she isn't used to can give her diarrhea or worse, potentially pancreatitis. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. speaking from experience, years ago with my dog we made him a peanut butter carrot doggie cake for his 13th birthday. A simple Google search will give you multiple recipes to make this type of cake. The ingredients are safe and my dog loved the taste. Ingredients consists of peanut butter, carrots, vegetable oil, honey, whole wheat flour and egg. Obviously avoid things like chocolate, artificial sweeteners and lots of added sugar. Happy birthday Zeke! Some dogs can handle small infrequent amounts of human food without any problems. However, others are more sensitive. Gastrointestinal upset and/or pancreatitis can result from human food ingestion. There is no way to predict if he will have an issue or not. A very small amount is less likely to cause a problem. I love that you want to throw Gizmo a birthday party! He's such a handsome boy, and he deserves that party. If you give a little of both, that would be fine but don't give him large amounts of each item. Also be sure to take lots of pictures, especially with a party hat on :-)

Yes, homemade treats are fine. There are plenty of recipes you can find online on how to make homemade treats. All the ingredients you list are OK and there are MANY more. Just google some homemade treat recipes for dogs and go from there. Just be sure you are not feeding too many calories. A lot of treats are not good especially for small breed dogs. I don't see any ingredients that are toxic, but the sugar can cause some GI upset. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or a loss of appetite, have them seen by a vet. If the tuna fish does not cause any vomiting or diarrhea, then it should be fine to give him in small quantities assuming he is otherwise healthy. You can also try to add warm water to his dry kibble to soften it when you run out of canned food as well. Some dogs really like their food this way. I hope this information helps!
