My dog has ear drainage, head shaking, and is unsteady. What's wrong?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

My 12yr old boxer/terrier mix has moderate amount of clear/pinkish drainage from her left ear. Sudden onset No scratching and does not seem to have pain. She does occasionally shake her head and was somewhat unsteady yesterday. Ear infection vs??

Without actually looking into the ear with an otoscope it is not possible to tell you what the cause of this discharge is. It could be anything from an ear infection , to a ruptured abscess, to an ulcerated cancerous growth, to a ruptured ear drum. Please take Your dog to a vet , as the unsteadiness does point to some inner ear problem.
