My dog drank Mountain Dew. Is it toxic? What should I do for her now?

But the good news is, I would not expect a single prepackaged coffee drink like this to contain enough of either one to cause any serious toxicity issues in a large-breed dog. It's possible that he may have some mild stomach upset if he isn't used to eating things like this, but otherwise I would not expect to see any serious problems. To be safe, it would be best to monitor him for the next 12 hours for any signs of toxicity - which would include repeated episodes of vomiting or diarrhea, restlessness or hyperactivity, muscle tremors, or even seizures. If you see anything that concerns you, you can always take him to the vet to be checked.

The first signs you would be looking for are vomiting, diarrhea, agitation and/or hyper excitability. Depending on the amount ingested, signs of hyperactivity, restlessness, vomiting, elevated heart rate, high blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, tremors, and elevated body temperature may be seen. If Noelani had ingested either meth or coke this morning, I would certainly have expected signs to develop by now (8 hours later). If the bag was well sealed and ingested whole, it may pass in her GI tract without her absorbing anything, but it is always safest to have her examined. This product contains caffein, which dogs are very sensitive to. The diarrhea, vomiting and fast breathing are all signs of toxicity. This can quickly become life-threatening, so I recommend you take Bindi to the vet immediately. good luck and I hope all goes well with Bindi.

Hello, and thanks for using PetCoach. If it was just a couple licks, then the dose of caffeine Niko got would be pretty small and I wouldn’t induce intervene. If he drank a more significant amount then I recommend contacting Pet Poison Helpline to better quantify and assess how much caffeine he actually consumed. From your description it sounds like a pretty small amount - but if you perceive it was more than a couple licks, it’s worth getting guidance from the toxicology experts. There is a $65 fee to start a consultation with Pet Poison, but that’s far less than you’d spend rushing him in to an emergency vet, and they very likely may advise you that his caffeine exposure was small enough not to be of concern. Since the cold brew is liquid, it may be too late to get out of his system even if you induced vomiting, so the question at this point is likely whether you should watch for development of symptoms or whether the exposure is high enough to warrant preemptive hospitalization. I do not suspect Niko’s exposure was that high, but we’d need more info on exactly how much he consumed.
