My dog is dizzy with loss of balance, vomiting, and drooling. Vet?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Dixie! Since she is so young I really worry about her eating a toxin. Another possibility though it is not common in such a young dog is vestibular disease. This is when the balance center is off and they feel like they are spinning. Their eyes tend to be moving abnormally, they have a head tilt, fall to one direction, walk drunk and vomit. I would take her to an open emergency hospital to be evaluated. I wish you the best!

Dizziness is never normal and can indicate many things including toxin ingestion, drug exposure, an infection in the brain, brain cancer, low blood sugar, an inner ear infection and other serious reasons. A physical exam and bloodwork are needed to begin figuring out the cause and the best treatment. Other diagnostics may also be indicated. The lip smacking may indicate nausea which has many many causes and may be related to whatever is making her feel dizzy. A bump on her head could be many things. It could be an inflamed cyst but something like a cancerous Mast Cell Tumor can also behave the same way. Make sure to discuss all three of these things with your vet. I hope they figure things out quickly and that she gets back to normal quickly.

Hello. OK, this does not sound good. Princess is in distress, either from a massive infection, vestibular disease, stroke or an inflammatory brain lesion. That is very unusual. There are several things that come to mind that could cause the signs. Ingesting toxins, an inner ear infection, stroke or viral infections are all possible. Anytime a pet appears off-balance you should be concerned and I recommend to take Nigel in to see a veterinarian right away. The doctor will need to perform a few basic tests to try to figure out the cause of the imbalance. Treatment will depend on the cause. Best of luck and I hope this is helpful. It sounds like Libby have a severe ear infection, and I would take her into a vet immediately. This will be very painful to her, and leaving it untreated can lead to hearing loss. The vet can confirm that she does have an ear infection, and can treat her for it. Please take her into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see her now.

Hi. This is definitely not normal. I would be concerned she has episodes of low glucose, a neurologic condition she may have been born with, or another possibility is an infection that is affecting her neurologic system. I recommend she get a full blood panel, try another food to entice her to eat more, and have a full neurologic exam done by your veterinarian or a neurologic specialist. Having none of her shots does put infection high on the list.

This could be anything from symptoms of poisoning to an ear infection or vestibular disease to a tumor or neurological condition. I recommend getting her seen by your vet as soon as possible for an exam, bloodwork, possibly x-rays, so your vet can determine the cause of Portia's balance problems and be better able to advise you on treatments.
