My dog has diarrhea for a week, home remedies failed. What now?

Pet's info: Dog | English Springer Spaniel | Male | neutered | 3 years and 6 months old | 55 lbs

My dog has had diaoreeha for a week gave 3 day course of tablets starved him and only gave him rice toast dry and scrambled egg made with water but mother drying it up can you advise x

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

I would recommend with holding food for 12-24 hours. Allow full acess to water. Sometimes when they have such severe diarrhea resting the gut helps. So not adding fuel to the fire so to speak. Then call your vet in the morning and see if it ok to try a bland dietfor a few days until stool is normal then get her back on the U/R. You could also start a probiotic. I like Purina Fortiflora

Do boiled chicken and rice for a few days to help and you can get a probiotic to help at any pet supply store such as PetCo. If you notice blood then you need to see a vet. You may need a sensitive stomach formula in the future to help but if there is no improvement then take her in for testing

It sounds like Ty has an upset stomach. I recommend calling your veterinarian tomorrow morning and seeing if they can see Ty.

In the mean time I recommend making sure Ty doesn't get anything but a bland diet (you can do boiled chicken and white rice). As long as he is not vomiting, there is no blood and he is not over lethargic then it is ok to wait until tomorrow to have her seen. If any of these symptoms occur then I recommend taking Ty to an emergency veterinarian.

My dog has diarrhea but is happy and playful. What should I do?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Trisha. It could be she has a GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, or could have intestinal worms. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps her. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. I hope this helps!
