My dog has diarrhea with spots in stool. Is it worms or an emergency?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Worms do cause diarrhea and a very high worm burden (amount) can cause severe disease. However, if the puppy is eating, playing and drinking, and is acting normally, then you can wait until tomorrow. I would just inform the new owners about the worms, and have them bring Dan to the vet right away. The vet will get proper deworming performed, as well as vaccines. Best of luck with them!

Hello, depending on which medications she has, side effects may include GI signs such as the ones you saw this morning. If she continues to have blood her stool contact your veterinarian in the morning. However, if she develops profuse watery and bloody diarrhea with other GI signs such as vomiting and inappetence then she should be seen by an emergency veterinarian. Blood is always concerning in the stool, but as long as Arah is eating and drinking normally, and otherwise behaving normally, it's not an emergency. That's not to say it shouldn't be checked out by a vet, it should, but you don't have to rush her in immediately. Have her seen in the next few days.

If he’s otherwise normal you should be fine watching him tonight. He could have a ruptured anal abscess, or be passing a bone. He could also have a mass inside the rectum. Severe bloody diarrhea in a dog that is lethargic and not eating is a medical emergency but this sounds like he’s stable so bring him to your regular veterinarian in the morning so they can diagnose and treat his problem. Hi ! If the amount of fresh blood is little I would not recommend an emergency check up. Fresh blood is probably coming from the lower intestine, most likely the colon or from around the anus where these is some irritation from the diarrhoea. I would recommend a bland diet of chicken and rice , or fish and rice or Hill's GI prescription food and a good probiotic. Diarrhoea should settle in a few days, but if Val is not eating or she seems to pass a lot of diarrhoea, or if the blood increases, I would recommend a vet check up. Hope this helps !

Poor Bitsy! It certainly isn't normal to have bloody diarrhea, and it can have serious causes such as GI tumors, infected anal sacs, intestinal worms, dietary intolerance, trauma to the GI tract, hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, and a foreign body among other causes. If Bitsy is acting normally, eating and drinking normally, and doesn't have any more episodes of it, it could be a one off occurrence from something she ate, and it likely doesn't require a vet visit. Should it happen again, and/or she develops other signs such as vomiting, anorexia, and lethargy, then I would have her seen by a vet right away.

The worms can be tapeworms and they often look like small pieces of rice. They get these from eating a flea. It can cause itching and irritation around there anus. However an infectedcor impacted anal gland can also cause the same symptoms and can rupture if untreated. I would take him to the vet to have the worms confirmed and get medicine for that. They can also chechnyhebgkabds to make sure antibiotics aren't needed to help. This does not have to be as an emergency thiugh, if he is eating and drinking well you can schedule an appointment for tomorrow
