My dog's diarrhea came back. Why are his stools soft and golden?

Hi and thanks for your request. This may be still due to partial gastrointestinal upset, meaning that the gastrointestinal system is still recovering. I would recommend to continue to feed Milo with this diet until feces are not back to normal colour and consistency. If the signs last more than a week time a check up at your local vet will be required.

Milo is ridiculously cute!! My main concern is that he start drinking. You can offer water with a little chicken broth in it. (But always make sure there is fresh water too.) Start a probiotic like Purina Fortiflora. Try a bland diet (half plain boiled/canned chicken half plain cooked white rice) for a few days and I expect the diarrhea to improve after 1-3 days. (Then transition back to her regular diet slowly over 3-5 days.) If at ANY time he is lethargic, vomiting, not wanting to eat, or you have other concerns, you need to go to the vet clinic right away to make sure it’s nothing more serious. From these pictures, Milos eyes seem normal. However, if you are concerned you can have your veterinarian perform an ophthalmic exam to be sure there is no problem. With regard to the diarrhea, this could be due to a bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection or it could mean that Milo ate something he should not have eaten. You can try putting Milo on a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice for a few days. However, if the diarrhea does not resolve, you will need to have him examined by your veterinarian.

I think the stool is looking OK for what he is eating. I really don't recommend giving any dairy products when a dog has diarrhea. Cottage cheese is not really something I would suggest. At this stage you should put him back on his regular food and add in a probiotic (one made for dogs, not people). I like Fortiflora and you should use it for a minimum of 14 days. Hello, thank you for your question about Romeo. It is possible that the color change could be secondary to one of the medications as these can often lead to change after digestion in the GI tract. If the diarrhea continues in spite of these treatments I would recommend having Romeo rechecked by your veterinarian so that they can consider adding additional medications such as an antibiotic/anti-diarrheal such as metronidazole. At this point, I don’t think it’s the soup. Common causes of persistent diarrhea in a puppy would be intestinal parasites, bacterial or viral infection, continued dietary indiscretion (meaning he keeps eating things he shouldn’t), or, less commonly, a food sensitivity to his current puppy food. Since this has lasted longer than 24 hours, I would recommend taking Sunny to the vet for evaluation. They can check a stool sample for parasites and evaluate his vaccination history to make sure there weren’t any gaps, then proceed with a recommended treatment.

They may want to extend his prescription or recheck him. Be sure to feed whatever diet his vet has recommended with no other food or treats. Sometimes a probiotic, such as FortiFlora, can help. I would speak to his vet and follow their suggestions. Diarrhea can be caused by anything from stress to dietery indescretion to food intolerance or infection. I hope Copper is back to normal soon.
