My dog has diarrhea, panting, and pain when touched. What should I do?

If Maxx seems very painful or in severe distress and this has been ongoing all morning, it would be a good idea to bring him to a vet ASAP. Diarrhea in addition to pain, heavy panting or distress may indicate severe GI upset, obstruction, GDV (bloat), or another illness, and should be checked out by a vet right away if his symptoms are continuing.

Poor Jolene. Good job starting the bland diet! She likely feels poorly from the diarrhea, and it may be she has a fever causing the panting and shaking. If you can take her temperature rectally, I recommend doing that. A dog's normal temperature is between 101-102.5F. If her temperature is above 103F, take her into a vet right away. Otherwise, wait and see how her poop looks while on the bland diet. If she continues to have diarrhea, have her seen by a vet.

Not eating or drinking can be signs of a systemic illness that is causing him to feel ill. Examples are liver disease, kidney disease, hormonal imbalances, and even cancer. Walking hunched is an indication of back pain and/or abdominal pain. He may be panting despite the normal room temperature because of this pain or discomfort. For all of these reasons, I would recommend having Marley evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. They will likely recommend blood work, a urinalysis and abdominal x-rays to look for evidence of underlying disease that could make him unwilling to eat or drink. These tests may also give some insight into why he is walking hunched over and sensitive to you touching him. Hello. I am sorry for your concerns about Sumo. I am concerned that he may be in quite a bit of pain. Panting is a strong sign of this. The accumulation of gas in the intestines from either infection or inflammation may be the source of this pain as well as the tense abdomen. Sumo needs to see a veterinarian soon. If this is a volvulus or stomach twist, his life may be in danger, but regardless of the cause, he needs to seen tonight. I hope all is well soon. Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. It would be best if he could be evaluated today. Being a toy poodle, he is small. It will be very easy for him to become dehydrated from the loose stool. He sounds nauseous by the way you described the lip smacking. I suspect that he is not eating well. He could be painful from gastrointestinal upset or it is common for small breed dogs to experience neck or back pain. While he could be constipated, a lot of dogs with strain with diarrhea only passing a drop or two. So it appears that they are unable to defecate. In the meantime, try to encourage him to drink water and eat if he is interested. I hope this information helps!
