My rescue dog has diarrhea, itchy paws, skin issues. Is it allergies?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 10 months old | 95 lbs

I rescued a dog from the shelter a few weeks ago. He had terrible ear infections and overgrowth inside the ears and took antibiotics and steroids. He has swollen red itchy paws and a variety of strange skin issues including a round hairless patch on the arm. Last night he developed the runs and has had that all day today. He is a large pit possibly lab and boxer as well. Not sure if any of these are related... I'm concerned about allergies or fungal infection as well. Thanks!

The diarrhea may or not may be related to what sound like allergies, maybe he ate something that is causing this, withhold food for 12 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food.

Regarding the skin condition, this needs to be investigated and treated with anti allergy meds probably, this is something the vet can help you with.
