Why does my dog get diarrhea when I try to feed him kibble?

I can give you a home remedy to try for Chiquitin, and I would switch back to his normal brand of dog food. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Typically if you give your pet probiotics this will help with the diarrhea. I would recommend giving Culturelle over the counter to the food daily and hopefully this is enough to get things back to normal. However some pets will have severe bacteria dysbiosis (imbalance) which requires an additional antibiotic to get things to clear up completely. Typically I prescribe Metronidazole and this does great to get pets back to normal fast.

If you intend to transition to a new food, do it this way: I would fast Lou for 24 hours and then put him on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly over a few days. Hi, thanks for using Petcoach! I don't think you need to be super concerned with Diesel. I recommend starting him on a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger mixed with rice. Feed him 3 1/2 cups per day until 2 normal stools. You can also start a probiotic. I like Purina Fortiflora. If the diarrhea persists, worsens, you see blood or he starts vomiting get him looked at by your Vet.
