My dog has diarrhea after diet change and isn't pooping. What's wrong?

My pup had loose motion after a change in diet. I'm giving her cerelac with curd now. She took medicine yesterday and pooped only once in morning since then she hasn't pooped at all though peed a lot of times. I have stopped the medicine yesterday only

Milk curd and other dairy products can worsen diarrhea. If you wish to give a bland meal for the diarrhea, boiled rice and chicken is easiest on the stomach and easy to digest. You will also want to return to Myra's old food until the diarrhea resolves, and then gradually change her to the new food over a period of 7-9 days to avoid GI upset.

A change in diet can cause diarrhea, and while it's not normal, it isn't serious. You can try a home remedy to see if that helps the diarrhea. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet.

Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. This could also be due to the change in food. You may try starting him on a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice for a few days. If this continues, I recommend that you have Hachi evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may choose to check for parasites and to start medications for diarrhea depending on the results. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

Dietary intolerance is very common in some dogs. I recommend not feeding anything for 12 hours, and then start a bland diet of boiled chicken breast and cooked white rice for a few days. Water or pedialyte is ok. You can try a product like ProPectalin AntiDiarrheal Gel for Dogs

It is common that dogs will develop diarrhea from a sudden food change, but it can be challenging to do a slow diet change when they stop eating their regular diet. Dog has diarrhea after sudden food change or new brand. What to do?

A sudden change in diet including switching brands can be enough to cause diarrhea in a dog. I can give you a home remedy to try for Chiquitin, and I would switch back to his normal brand of dog food. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Why is my dog getting diarrhea after eating and what can I do to help?

Most pets do not handle milk well and it will cause diarrhea so I would recommend discontinuing giving milk and other human foods, especially if they are causing diarrhea. If you think Ginger may have some tummy upset, you can pick up all food and offer a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken, before returning her to her regular diet. Be sure she is being fed a puppy food that is balanced and nutritious to ensure she is doing well. Having her stool checked for parasites, or taking her in for a vet exam if the diarrhea continues is best, as parasites, illness and other causes can also cause prolonged diarrhea and require treatment to resolve.

You are correct that Royal Canin is a better food for Darcy, and it's a good you are making the switch to it. It could be that the combination of the Pedigree and Royal Canin is causing the diarrhea, and she's not eating because of an upset stomach. I wouldn't be worried just yet, and I will give you a home remedy to try before having to take her into the vet. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet, just the Royal Canin dry only. The diarrhea could also be caused by intestinal parasites, and I would make sure she is up to date on her deworming treatments.

My dog has diarrhea after switching to a raw diet. What to do?

Poor Meeka! The diarrhea could be due to many conditions including eating something she shouldn’t have, bacterial over growth, parasites, the raw diet or even organ disease. Since the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check her for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. Why is my puppy's stomach upset after a quick new food transition?

Yes, you should have transitioned her slowly over a few days from the rice and chicken to the new food. So start all over again: Fast Meisha again for 12 hours, then feed bland food such as boiled rice with boiled boneless white chicken meat in small quantities over several feeds a day,. Do this for a day, then start replacing small quantities of rice with her Blackhawk food over the next two days until she is at the normal quantity of her regular food. If the diarrhea does not go away by the end of the third day, or your Meisha is lethargic and dehydrated,you will need to take her to a veterinarian for an exam.
