My dog's diarrhea had blood, now it's yellow and soft. Is this bad?

Sorry to hear that Zavanna isn't feeling 100%. As long as the diarrhea hasn't been going on for very long, you can first try fasting her for about 24 hours. After the fast, feed a bland diet of boiled chicken / hamburger + rice for about 2-4 days, before gradually resuming her normal diet. In addition, you can add a probiotic designed for dogs such as Fortiflora to the food. This can help right the ship in terms of the good bacteria in the intestinal tract. I would also grab a fecal sample and bring it in to your veterinarian. A GI parasite can definitely cause the problem you are reporting. If the diarrhea doesn't clear up or it continues to worsen, make an appointment to see your vet. Hope this helps!

Blood in the stool, even if it seems to "go away" and come back later, is never normal. The fact that it's accompanied by diarrhea suggests colitis, or inflammation of the colon, as opposed to some type of bleeding mass in the rectum or colon. Colitis can have a number of causes, including dietary indiscretion (eating something rotten or non-food), parasites, food allergies/food sensitivities, inflammatory bowel disease, or infection. Leah may improve with a diet change, perhaps a more digestible diet specifically for gastrointestinal problems. To assume it's a "tummy issue" could be to ignore causes that are treatable, and at this point she's not only having diarrhea but she also lost her appetite. It's been three days and she's not improving, so I recommend having her seen by her vet for labwork to include parasite testing, blood work, and urinalysis for starters. If all is normal consider a bland diet (as recommended above), and a probiotic supplement. Ultimately, she may need to have biopsies taken to diagnose the exact cause.

It sounds as though you have already tried most home remedies for Sasha's diarrhea. It is encouraging that her stool firms up with a bland chicken and rice diet. If she is eating, drinking, and acting normally, you could try adding a probiotic (such as Fortiflora) into her new diet. I'm glad that you've looked into limited ingredient foods, but if a food allergy is causing her diarrhea, it can take at least 6-8 weeks to see any improvement related to the diet change. If the mudpies persist despite the probiotics and all of your bland diet attempts, a vet visit is in order. Sasha may have a virus, stomach upset from eating unusual food or foreign material, parasites, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), among other conditions. I hope that she's on the mend soon!

It is common for them to lose their appetite when they have a gastrointestinal disburance. Considering she has diarrhea, she is likely battling an infection, or food intolerance that is also making her feel nauseous. This may be due to another problem like a foreign body, or intestinal worms. Diarrhea is a common problem and is usually self-limiting (will go away on its own). It doesn't appear to be serious right now, but it's always possible that it could be the start of something serious. If Abby has any of the following, then she should see a vet: 1) Blood in diarrhea 2) Very watery diarrhea 3) Starts acting very depressed 4) Stops eating (i.e. will not even eat treats) or drinking for longer than 24 hours. 5) Diarrhea lasts longer than three days. You can often help them get through this by feeding bland food (boneless chicken and rice is good), but if she won't eat her normal food, then this may not work. Feed small portions (1/2 cup or less) three times a day. You can also add probiotics to the food (can get this at the pet store), which has demonstrated some efficacy for improving diarrhea. These signs may be compatible with a persistent colitis. If no improvement is seen within 48hours of the new chicken and rice diet a check up at your local vet would be needed as antibiotics are in these cases required.

I worry about bloody diarrhea in puppies, because Parvo infections can start this way and quickly become life-threatening. It's good that she's acting normal at this time, but best to have her seen by a vet in the next 24 hours. They can help determine the severity of this and give the appropriate treatment. I recommend giving Chico a bland diet, boiled chicken and white rice. If he becomes lethargic, there is blood or he isn't eating then I recommend taking Chico to a veterinarian. Also if the diarrhea isn't resolving after another day I would consider taking him to a veterinarian.
