After trimming, why is white stuff coming from my dog's dew claw?

Hi and thanks for posting. From the picture, it looks like the declaw is bent back a bit and there appears to be a lot of redness and swelling around the base of the declaw. I do see a raised portion of the skin around the declaw. It does appear infected. I would recommend Mia see a veterinarian for this as soon as possible. If the declaw is broken, it may need to be clipped back so it can grow back normally and Mia may need to get on antibiotics for this as well. I hope this helps!

It does look like there is some discharge/pus around the nail bed and I would recommend getting it rechecked by your vet, if confirmed she may require a course of antibiotics. Bathing the are in saline/salted water and drying carefully will help to freshen the area in the meantime. If she is very lame x-rays may need to be considered to rule out underlying factors behind the lost nail/swollen toe

It is possible he may have caught the dew claw and injured it or he may have been stung/bitten by an insect etc. Continue to monitor for any increased pain or discomfort and keep the area bathed with salted water to prevent infection

Hello. It looks like she may have broken that nail and the hard “shell” of the nail is lifted off of the quick which is the pink fleshy part. This can be painful which is why she is probably licking it. It is best to have your veterinarian trim this back and maybe bandage the foot. If it is trimmed back, the nail will regrow .

This looks like it could be a viral papilloma, or it could be something like granulation tissue (which is a part of the healing process). Since there has been a change in the appearance of the sore I would recommend rechecking with your vet to see what they would recommend as the next step. They might want to biopsy this area or they might recommend continuing the current treatments for a bit longer if this seems like granulation tissue in person.

If the swelling has gotten worse since the claw fell off, then Missy needs to see a veterinarian. There may be an infection that needs to be treated (which can get into the bone). Your veterinarian may need to take an x-ray of the foot to determine what the problem is and decide on the best treatment. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Hello. In all honesty, all lumps & bumps should be investigated. I can not say with any certainty whether this is a benign or malignant tumor, a cyst or an infection. It really needs a hands on examination, possibly with a small biopsy called a fine needle aspirate, to determine its make-up.
