His pain to be reasonably well controlled. Finally, he needs to have some joy in his life. It may be different from in his younger years, but he should still enjoy things. 24 years! That's awesome. You need to monitor quality of life. This includes pain control, getting around, eating, drinking, getting out to go potty (versus doing it on themselves or around themselves), excitement about something they enjoy, etc. He should also probably be on pain medications other then just CBD. I would recommend an exam with your veterinarian to help make the decision after seeing him
