My dog has deep sores on his head under his fur. What could it be?

Hello. The skin issues that are shown in the photos are what we call "hotspots". These are moist bacterial infections that can be caused by a number of things including fleas, allergies, trauma to the skin, too much swimming, etc. The infection itself is very itchy and uncomfortable. Sonny should be seen by a veterinarian to assess if there are any other things going on and to have these areas clipped and cleaned. Your vet will most likely prescribe a combination of topical and oral medication to clear the infection. Hi. This appears to be a hot spot on him. This is basically an area of a moist dermatitis , or skin infection. They are usually secondary to allergies of some type. They are treated at the veterinarian by clipping the area, cleaning it with medicated cleaner, and then antibiotics and antiinflammtories. I'd call your veterinarian in the morning for an appointment

It looks like Tank could have what we call a "hot spot" or a superficial pyoderma (bacterial infection of the skin). You can read more about this issue at https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4952981 . I would recommend bringing him in to see the vet. We often need to shave these areas and clean them with an antiseptic cleaner. Then sometimes an oral antibiotic/steroid is needed, others times a topical spray such as Gentocin spray is prescribed. I would be careful having him outside with this wound as it can attract flies/maggots which you don't want to deal with! I would recommend keeping him primarily indoors until the lesion is healed.

The spot in the picture looks infected, it will need to be clipped and treated with antibiotics. he will also need to wear an e-collar in order to prevent him from licking the area and making it worse. i would recommend taking him to the vet in order to get it treated.

I will repost with a few added pieces of information since this seems to be a duplicate question. Poor girl. It sounds like perhaps these areas may be infected and in need or oral antibiotics or topical antibiotics to heal properly. Hard to say for sure without seeing this. You can share a photo via private consultation request (if needed). You can try cleaning these areas with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water. A thin layer of topical Neosporin or "Hot spot spray" (from your local pet store, this is preferred) can also be applied if the sores are not too deep. If these areas don't start to look better within 3-7 days, then its time to see a vet for proper wound management and oral antibiotics. I hope your poor girl gets better soon!

It looks like she has a skin infection. You could clean it with a wound wash and see if that helps. Otherwise, have your vet examine her to determine the cause and treat. She might need an antibiotic and corticosteroid to help treat.

This definitely looks like a skin infection and pretty deep. Unfortunately, topical over the counter medications are probably not going to be enough to clear this up. Dozer will need to see your veterinarian to get the right prescription antibiotic to treat this properly.
