My dog's paw is cut and she can't walk. Should I go to the vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 8 lbs

My dog foot got caught in the door and it cut part of her paw the bleeding stopped after some mins I cleaned it and bandaged it she seems fine other than the fact she can't walk on that paw. Do I need to take her to the vet or does this type of stuff heal with proper home care?

If your dog is not bearing weight on the foot then this warrants a visit to the vet as the foot must be quite painful and the cut may be deep enough to need antibiotic treatment. The vet will determine this based on their exam.

Good to hear Teddy is still walking on it okay, but I would still take him in to see his veterinarian so they can take a closer look. There may be something stuck in it or it could be a bacterial infection from an allergy or other injury to the paw pad which may require antibiotics in order to help heal. Until you are able to take Teddy to his veterinarian, I would recommend soaking the paw in Epsom salt for 5-10 mins 2-3 times a day to help lessen the swelling a bit.

These generally heal uneventfully if caused b an accident, in which case keep bathed with salted water to prevent infection. They can occasionally be a sign of a wider skin problem so monitor all feet closely for the next week or so and contact your vet if spreading

Hello, Dogs with heartworm may cough with or without phlegm. The best way to test for heartworm is with a small blood sample. That cut on the paw pad is very deep. Ideally, I think she should see a vet for it now. Clean the wound with warm saline before applying the topical antibiotics and bandage. Do this twice daily until healed for the best possible results. If her foot gets swollen, starts having green discharge, or she stops being interested in food, it may be a sign of a serious infection that requires a vet visit and oral antibiotics. My dog's paw hurts and he won't walk. Is it a cut? Home care or vet?

This looks like a cut on the pad in the picture. You can soak Solomom's foot in warm water twice daily and gently cleanse it with some antibacterial soap. The warm water should be soothing and if you gently massage his foot while it's in the water you should be able to clean the area and feel if there is something in the foot. I wouldn't put anything on this as that will encourage licking. Foot injuries are painful. If the area gets more swollen and red, or he's not walking on it better in a day or so then I would bring him in for and exam. He may need antibiotics if the cut gets infected. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It depends on the location and severity of the cut as to how it would best be treated. Sometimes they can be closed, other times bandaging may be best. Ideally wounds should be addressed as quickly as possible to allow for optimal healing. Waiting another day may make closing the wound impossible if it's an option. Make sure that Moose cannot lick the wound, this may require an e-collar (lampshade cone of shame). If it is painful or continuing to bleed he should be seen tonight.

My dog has bleeding paw sores and won't walk. What to do until vet?

Place an e-collar (cone) on Pardi to prevent licking. Gently clean with a dilute chlorhexidine solution. You can apply a non stick pad and bandage lightly, but you will need to change the bandage when it becomes moist or dirty. There are no OC medications you can safely give for pain management. See your veterinarian as soon as you are able.

Dog cut paw in woods, bleeding. When is a vet visit truly needed?

Poor LaVerne. Given that it bled for a bit, and she cut it in the woods, she needs to see a vet. The reason for that is it will be very contaminated from the woods, and it has to be cleaned out properly. Plus she will need pain medications and antibiotics, both of which are prescription only.

Why won't my dog put weight on her paw after a healed cut?

If the would healed over but she is still not bearing weight then there is probably more going on like a fractured toe or a piece of bone (or something inside the skin) that is causing her pain. She needs to see a vet for an exam and some xrays of the foot.
