I accidentally cut my dog while grooming. What should I do now?

Of course, we can't tell for sure, but that looks like a small tear or cut which could have happened from a kennel edge, scissors, clippers, or a sharp edge of a table, etc. I would expect more tearing or bruising if it was a dog bite. The wound looks clean, but I would still recommend an antibacterial cleaner/wash since there is likely bacterial from the skin that has gotten into the wound. Most of the time, that is all we recommend for small wounds like that because they will heal well as long as they are kept clean and protected. Depending on where the wound is, you may need to use an e-collar or shirt to keep it protected and keep Sonny from licking at it since that may cause it to get infected. Hello, I recommend taking Roxy to her veterinarian. Its hard to say without an exam how deep the wound extends. If it is very superficial, it may heal fine on its own with time. If the wound is deep enough to enter the chest cavity, or if the lymph node in the armpit is involved, an infection could be much more serious. In the future, I recommend grooming her with clippers to avoid this scenario. It is unfortunately common for people to accidentally cut their dogs with scissors when doing home grooming. HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Max! This happens a lot when owners trim their dogs or cats hair, especially if the fur is matted. It should have stitiches placed. I would recommend that you take him to a Vet. They hopefully could do it with a local block quickly if he has a calm temperament. I am sorry to hear about your pup! Ideally we would use a chlorhexidine soap while being careful not to get it in the eye. You can purchase this at most drug stores under the trade name Hibiclens or the store may have a generic version. After cleaning you can apply a topical antibiotic ointment and monitor the area for increased bleeding, swelling, or yellow/green discharge which can be a sign of infection and veterinary care will be needed. If you discover the wound gets larger/appears to open up after cleaning then sutures (stitches) may be needed by the vet.
