My dog hasn't pooped in days. What can I give to help her go?

You could start giving her 2 tablespoons of canned pumpkin with her meals which may help with cases of mild constipation. If it has been 1 and 1/2 days since Luna's last bowel movement but is still eating and drinking normally, she may be a little constipated. You can try adding a tablespoon or two of plain canned pumpkin to her food twice daily for an extra fiber boost to help move things along. If that doesn't help, I would recommend Luna sees her veterinarian to rule out other causes of constipation such as a parasitic infection or other cause. It's not normal that Tinkerbell hasn't pooped in two days, and she could be constipated. Constipation can be caused by anal sac impaction, intestinal parasites, a foreign body, too little fiber in the diet, lack of exercise, or even tumors in the GI tract. I recommend giving her a tablespoon of canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling) mixed in with her food to see if that helps. If she is still constipated in 24-48 hours, she will need to see a vet as she will likely need a laxative or an enema. Your vet can diagnose the cause of the constipation as well.

You can offer Charlie some canned pumpkin and add plenty of water to his food to help with the constipation. There are no safe over the counter enemas for dogs so please have Charlie examined by your veterinarian if he doesn't have a bowel movement soon.

If he is otherwise acting normally (no vomiting, normal appetite, energy normal, no pain) you can try adding a teaspoon of canned pumpkin to his food twice a day, or giving him some cat hairball remedy (such as laxatone). It could be there is something wrong. Give Lilo a tablespoon of canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling) with her food to see if that helps. Also try feeding her canned food and adding water to it. If it does not, have her seen by a vet in the morning. Best of luck.
