Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 9 years and 10 months old | 68 lbs

My girl dog is 10 years old has been constipated and not eating much she also has been pacing around. She has had a bowel movement but only 1 a day and she normally does 2 she stains so hard for just a little bit. She has been really clingy. What would cause this? She has a history of MCT and she does have a couple more she has never acted this way before

Dehydration can be a cause of constipation in dogs. Give Honey canned food and add water to it. Lack of exercise can be a problem, so I'd take her for a walk. Too little fiber in the diet is another cause, and you can add a tablespoon of canned pumpkin puree (no pumpkin pie filling) to her food. Other causes include a foreign body, blocked or abscessed anal sacs, or GI tumors. Having her checked out by a vet for a health check is a good idea. Best of luck.
