Updated on September 23rd, 2025

What medicine can I give my dog if he has cold like symptoms? He was just neutered and I wasn't sure what I could give him.

Unfortunately, there are no safe OTC cold medications for dogs, and I would not recommend giving anything to Chewy without a prescription from your vet. If he is congested, you can also try using a humidifier (no medications) or bringing him into the bathroom with the door closed while you take a hot shower - the steam and humidity help to break up congestion and temporarily relieve symptoms associated with respiratory infections. If this doesn't help him symptoms or they get worse, I would take him into the vet for an exam, and the vet can prescribe safe medications to help him.

Do not give any medications to Chewy without the advice of your veterinarian. Many OTC medications can cause severe problems if given or if dosed improperly. Have Chewy rechecked by your vet to confirm respiratory infection.
